What should be done to take care of these children with special needs?

To recognize the ability of these children with special needs rather than focus on their disadvantages.
To keep a positive attitude towards the children with special needs.
Not to use words that discourages the children by motivating them to build interest in their work.
Steps should be taken to make the children independent.
The children should be given positive motivation.
The traditional and negative view towards disabled children should be changed and done away with.
Special needs children don't need your sympathy but your support.
Special needs children should be given equal opportunities.

Why did Chingari Trust start working with special needs children?

The Chingari Trust believes that due to the gas leak from the Union Carbide factory the children born in the affected families are physically and mentally challenged. (The physically and mentally challenged children will henceforth be called children with special needs)

During the last couple of years many scientist have stated on the basis of their research findings that the affect of the gas leak would last for generations to come. The government has not taken up the issue of children with special needs seriously nor has it taken the necessary steps towards their treatment. The women involved with the Fight For Justice Movement feel the need to help these special needs children. Two of the women were awarded the Goldman Environment Award, and this has given them a chance to help the gas survivors and their children with special needs children. Work with the children started in September 2006. The Trust believes that these children need special attention, love and care. The children face a lot of difficulties because they are neglected without proper medical help.

The Trust believes that it is important to bring to the foreground the information regarding problems faced by these children, and making sure that the government and the company are compelled to take responsibility for rehabilitating these children.

Two Words

The Chingari Trust welcomes you. The trust works on behalf of families affected by the poisonous gas and the water contaminated by the toxin waste of the Union Carbide factory. It also works to raise awareness against the company.

The Chingari Trust is a registered philanthropic organization and it does not work according to any gender or religious differences or partiality. The trust has been started by women fighting for justice against the company and is run by a board of trustee who are all women.

This is an important step to spread the Bhopal Justice movement to the world under the leadership of women. The trust works for the health care and rehabilitation of the special needs children born to families exposed to toxin gas or contaminated water. It also works for the livelihood program of women victims. Women fighting against the injustice of companies are awarded The Chingari Award yearly on a national level.

The objective of doing this is to make sure that Union Carbide (present owner DOW) takes responsibility for their mistakes and be punished for the same, so as to make sure that a disaster like Bhopal does not happen anywhere else in the world.

To give medical help to some children and employment to some women or to give an award to women for their fight for right is not the only cause. Though it is true all these three steps are a creative step forward in the fight for justice.

The Chingari Trust runs on the money donated by people. So if you would like to help the trust your gesture will be deeply appreciated. In the struggle for Bhopal and against Union Carbide/DOW the women have kept the flames burning and through this effort they hope to unite the women of the world. They hope to transform these flames into fire, difficult to tame.

You can also be a part of the effort but giving your suggestions for improvement and helping us to function better.
